Common questions

Honest answers, before you commit.

Common questions about prescriber-led weight loss treatment. Anything else, call 0117 974 1348.

How does the consultation work?

The free initial consultation is a private conversation with a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber. We review your weight history, BMI, medical history, current medications and goals. We then explain whether prescription treatment is clinically appropriate and what to expect. There's no pressure to proceed.

Which medication will I be offered?

We can't discuss specific prescription-only medicines publicly, as advertising them to the public isn't permitted under UK regulations. During your free consultation the Independent Pharmacist Prescriber will explain the licensed treatment options available, how each one works, and which is most appropriate for you.

What are the common side effects?

The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — nausea, reduced appetite, constipation or diarrhoea — particularly when starting or stepping up a dose. These usually settle within a few weeks. Less common but more serious effects include pancreatitis and gallbladder issues. Your Independent Pharmacist Prescriber will go through the full safety profile during your consultation and provide a patient information leaflet.

Will I need to inject myself?

Yes — current licensed treatments are self-administered as a weekly injection using a pre-filled pen. The needle is very fine and most people find it straightforward. Your pharmacist will show you how to use it and answer any questions on your first appointment, and you can call us anytime if you're unsure.

What happens when I stop treatment?

Honest answer: many people regain some of the weight after stopping, particularly if treatment ends abruptly. That's why we focus on lifestyle change alongside the medication — diet, activity and habits that are sustainable without it. Your pharmacist will discuss a gradual step-down approach when the time is right.
